A somber mood has enveloped Lusweti village in Soy sub location, Likuyani sub county after a 12 year old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in his father’s house.
Confirming the incident, Soy sub location assistant chief Cornelius Luseno Lusava said the body of Elvis Jirongo, a standard seven pupil at Lusweti primary school was discovered dangling from the roof of their house on Wednesday morning.
He said despite the boy living under the same roof with his parents and siblings none of them heard when he committed suicide until his body was discovered by his sister at about 7:30am.
According to the deceased’s father Mr. Simon Khasiama who bakes and sells bricks, he was awakened early in the morning by a customer who had come to buy bricks and as they were loading the bricks he was called by his daughter informing him of the shocking incident.
“My daughter Jenty came and told me that Elvis had committed suicide, I couldn’t believe it, I rushed to the house where I found his mother wailing with the body hanging inside his room,” explained Khasiama.
He said his son didn’t tell him if he had any problem that could have led him to take his life in such a cruel way.
“He spent the whole of yesterday well and he didn’t tell me if had any problem, he wished me a goodnight as he went to bed before I received the shocking news of his death,” said the father.
Police officers removed the body and took it to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret for postmortem to establish the exact cause of his death and they launched an investigation into the incident.
