After burning down of a dormitory earlier today at Soy County Polytechnic, 14 students have been arrested after striking and destroying property worth millions of shillings at the institution.
Confirming the incident Likuyani deputy county commissioner Charles Mwayaya said the fourteen are believed to have masterminded and took part in the incident in which a dormitory was burnt with two vehicles being destroyed and also breaking of windows on other structures within the compound.
According to Mwayaya the students went on strike after being barred from entering the institution with their mobile phones.

They also complained of poorly cooked food and favoritism from some of the instructors towards a number of students at the expense of others.
“We have interrogated some of the students both boarders and day scholars and they have complained of being denied use of phones, poor food and unfair treatment from some of the instructors,” said Mwayaya.
However, the deputy county commissioner said the exact damage has not been established with government officers and the institution management still gathering some data
The fourteen were taken to Matunda police stations as investigations into the incident continued before being arraigned in court.
Mwayaya advised students to use proper ways of registering their grievances instead of resorting to the acts of lawlessness.
