West Pokot leaders loud govt. directive that schools introduce web sites

Leaders from west Pokot County have welcomed the directive by Cabinet secretary for education Fred Matiangi that all secondary schools should have functional web sites before June this year.
The leaders, west pokot governor Simon Kachapin, Women MP Regina Nyeris and Kapenguria Mp Samuel Moroto asked all counties to embrace the directive and start working on it.
Last week Matiangi asked all secondary schools to ensure they have functional websites to enhance public access to information.
He said form one selection beginning next year will be conducted online.
Kachapin said the problem that may hinder the directive from being implemented in the county is lack of electricity and urged contractors who have awarded tenders to connect power to all secondary schools in the region to speed up the process.
“Those who were awarded tenders trough Rural Electrification should speed up the process so that we are not left behind,” he said.
Kachapin also pointed out that connectivity of network in the area was still down and asked the government to collaborate with network service providers to ensure that the county is fully connected.
Moroto also thanked the cabinet secretary for streamlining the education sector.
He said even though the county is marginalized, nothing will hinder them in implementing the directive.
The leaders also pointed out that they will push for affirmative action to be taken by the ministry to ensure that the problem of shortage of teachers in the county in addressed.
“This county stayed for over fifteen years after independence without any secondary school. The government needs to prioritize such areas to get more teachers and schools,” he said.
The leaders were speaking on Friday at Embosis secondary school during the official hand over of a school bus funded by Kapenguria constituency development fund.
