Kenya has recorded 156 new Covid-19 cases, taking the country’s total to 96,614. Speaking on New Year’s Day at Afya House, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases were picked from 4,317 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
The cumulative tests conducted are 1,050,984. Of the new cases 142 are Kenyans and 14 are foreigners. 96 are males while 60 are females, with the youngest being a 7-month-old child and the oldest 78-years-old.
The fatalities have risen to 1,681 after 11 more people succumbed to the virus. However, 65 patients have recovered from the disease, 61 from the home based care program and 4 from various hospitals. The total recoveries are now at 78,802.
The distribution of the cases in the Counties is as follows; Nairobi 57, Mombasa 23, Busia 15, Kiambu 13 Murang’a 9, Machakos 7, Nakuru 5, Uasin Gishu 4, Kajiado 4, Kitui 4, Nyeri 4, Trans Nzoia 3, Meru 2, Makueni 1, Kisumu 1, Nandi 1, Kwale 1 Embu 1 and Homa bay 1.
On admissions, there are 661 patients admitted in various health facilities across the country while 2,960 are on home based care. 28 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 14 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 11 on supplemental oxygen while 3 are on observation.
Another 19 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen and 19 others are in the general wards. No patient is currently in the HDU.
