Police in Webuye town have arrested a 56 year old truck driver who was ferrying 10 sacks of bang from Uganda to Mombasa County at Pan Paper area.

Addressing the media in Webuye town, Webuye East OCPD Martha Ng’etich said they received reports at five in the morning and in conjunction with the police from Kakamega intercepted and arrested the truck driver who was coming from Uganda and after inspecting the truck they found bang well tied in sacks that resembled mitumba sacks and arrested the driver who is in police custody in Webuye police station.

Mrs. Ng’etich says after the forensic audit from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation department it was realized that the street value of the bhang was estimated at 15 million.

” We can’t get the exact value but it’s estimated at 15 million Kenyan shillings but prices change depending on places,” said Mrs. Ng’etich.

She thanked the members of the public for raising the alarm over the same and appreciated the good relationship that exists between the police and the members of the public and wanted it to be cultivated to make it stronger.

“Were it not for the public we would not have gotten the information which led to the arrest because you will realize that 15m bhang was going to affect many people especially the youths and we thank them for the cooperation,”said Webuye East OCPD.

She has warned drivers from associating themselves in ferrying bhang and other stuffs that go against the law that they will be dealt with the law and should cease such business adding that they are doing investigation and when concluded the suspect will be arraigned in court to answer to charges that will be leveled against him.
