Seventeen pupils have been confirmed dead after fire erupted in one of the dormitories at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni West, Nyeri County.
In his confirmation report to the media, National Police Service Spokesperson Dr Resilia Onyango said 14 other pupils with serious burn inuries have been rushed to hospital.
The deceased pupils were burnt beyond recognition in the Thursday night inferno.
The main cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be established by team on the ground.
Meanwhile, a team of police officers led by Deputy Director of CID John Onyango and Director of Homicide Martin Nyuguto has been deployed to the school to commence investigations into the incident.
Parents and guardians are flocking the school to find out wheathe their children are safe or have been affected by the fire incident.
Various leaders including the President Dr. William Samoie Arap Ruto have send their message of condolences to the families of those have lost their children in the incident.
In a stetment on his social media handle, he said;
Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives in the fire tragedy at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County.
This is devastating news.
We pray for speedy recovery to the survivors.
I instruct relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this horrific incident. Those responsible will be held to account.
The Government under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the National Government is mobilising all the necessary resources to support the affected families.
