The Kapsabet Law Courts in Chesumei constituency, Nandi County has managed to deal with a total of 4,221 general criminal cases as of 20th December this year and a total of 184 rape cases. This is according to an officer in charge of criminal registry at the Kapsabet Law Courts.
Speaking to West Media, the officer said that on average, a rape case may be reported once every two days sometimes, indicating that rape cases are on the rise in Nandi County. In February this year, the County Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot, woman representative Dr. Tecla Tum and Health CEC Ruth Koech along with other female leaders staged a demonstration to protest the increased rape cases.
They also protested the release of the assistant chief of Cheptabach sub-location who had allegedly defiled a 12-year-old girl in Bondeni village Nandi hills constituency. The assistant chief pleaded not guilty and was released on bond at the Kapsabet Law Courts
There have been no murder cases or corruption cases handled at the Kapsabet Law Courts this year so far.
