Men in Kakamega county have been urged to change their bad attitude they have against the capabilities of women in the society.
Speaking at Mabusi PAG church in Nzoia Ward, Likuyani Sub County when she presided over a fund drive in aid of Maendeleo ya Wanawake organization, Kanainza expressed her disappointment over what she observed as increasing male chauvinism and dominance against women.
“It is a bit disturbing to note that even after the historic promulgation of our current constitution in 2010, female of this country continue to be downgraded by their opposite sex counterpart that still expect them to remain subservient as it was traditionally,” pointed out Kanainza
She encouraged women to strongly come out and go beyond kitchen geography.
The senator, who has declared her interest in the Likuyani constituency parliamentary seat in the next general election, said like their male counterparts, women had the capacity and ability to grab political power, steer and realize the region’s economic and development agenda.
She urged women, whom according to her are majority voters, to rally their support behind any of their counterparts who will be vying for various elective posts in western region.
“It’s disappointing to note that it is only in western where we have very few elected women, let’s change our attitude and give women chance to lead us,” said Kanainza.
Saying women had the potential to turn around untapped economic fortunes in Kakamega County, the senator promised to work closely and support all women groups in Likuyani constituency.
Meanwhile, Kanainza has encouraged youths who have attained 18 years and above to register for national identity cards to enable them secure voters cards in order for them to help shape the country’s political destiny through exercising their democratic right of electing leaders of their choice in 2017.
