Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation, Eugene Ludovic Wamalwa, has advised political leaders from the former western province to rally the community behind voter registration exercise instead of registering new political parties.

Wamalwa was addressing mourners at a funeral service in Sango village in Likuyani Sub County where he blamed leading kingpins from western region, including Cyrus Jirongo and Musalia Mudavadi for doing very little in terms of drumming support for voter registration in the region when ironically they have already declared their interests in the presidency.

“Our leaders are not being honest with this clamor Luhya unity and ambition for the country’s presidency. Instead of uniting our already divided community along tribal lines, they ironically are creating more divisions by forming new parties instead of marshaling votes by pushing our people to register as voters,” said Wamalwa.

He lashed out at both various Jirongo and Wetangula for describing him as a mole working for the Jubilee administration, saying the two abandoned him and former Deputy Prime Minister, Musalia Mudavadi, in the last general elections.

“Jirongo has on several occasions betrayed the community’s clamor for presidency.  In 1997 he abandoned the late Michael Kijana Wamalwa and joined KANU just the same way he did in 2013 when he preferred to partner with Raila Odinga’s ODM instead of Mudavadi’s UDF,” noted Wamalwa.

Wamalwa cautioned leaders from the region against abusing one another and spreading their dirty linen in public.

The Minister promised to bounce back in active politics in 2017, “but for now let me serve the nation in my capacity as a cabinet secretary,” he added.
