Residents of Kimilili town using the Kimilili- Machinjoni- Mkulima road are a dissatisfied lot after the project of rehabilitating the road funded by the County government of Bungoma stalled for more than five months with the contractor abandoning the caterpillars and graders on the road.
Boda boda operators and drivers using the route expressed their concern over the state of the road construction saying the abandoned machines are inconveniencing them and have also caused accidents especially during the night as they have not put any signs to indicate of the stalled machines on the road for the road users.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi one of the boda boda operators said after being commissioned the road is supposed to have been at its last stages of construction as it was to be completed in February this year yet the progress is not seen on the ground an issue he claims should be dealt with immediately.
He called upon the Bungoma County governor Ken Lusaka to intervene and have the contractor complete his job or revoke the contract and give to another deserving contractor who will be able to finish up the work to enable them use the road conveniently.
However our efforts to reach the contractor proved futile as he could not be reached to comment on the status of the project.
Elsewhere the Kimilili residents appealed for the concerned authorities to erect bumps along the Kimilili- Misikhu road saying many accidents have occurred along the road due to over speeding by drivers and motor bike operators.
They said some drivers do not always slow down when approaching Kimilili town yet it has a lot of people going on with their daily activities as well as children going to school an issue that has caused many accidents with many losing their lives.
