Property of unknown value was today razed down to ashes at St. Bakitas Girls High School at Emuhaya in Vihiga County.
The fire that started at 5.am in the morning brought down the whole dormitory that was an occupied at the time.
Mrs Ruth Mavuka the Deputy Head teacher said the cause of the fire had not been established.
“We normally do thorough checkups when the students arrive from their school holidays we don’t allow candles, matchboxes or anything that can be the source of danger, but at the moment we can’t establish the cause of the fire” She said.
She said investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the inferno that destroyed property of over 164 students.
Students had gone for their morning preps when the fire started at dawn.
It took the efforts of the students and the non-teaching staff at the institution to put out the fire before the fire team arrival from neighboring Kisumu County.
The area Mp Wilber Otichilo said he is going to repair the demolished building through the CDF Kitty.
“We are great full to God that no student was injured, but we are going to put up a new building through CDF, we want learning to go on as normal in this School”, said Otichilo who assured the school that his office will cheap in helping parents buy some of the learning items destroyed.
