The national women’s volleyball team – The Malkia Strikers- camp has received a major boost with the arrival of France based duo of setter Jane Wacu and attacker Evelyne Makuto.
The two landed in Nairobi and headed straight to the team’s training camp at Kasarani indoor arena.
“It feels good to be back home and to join my team mates, on the first day of training I have felt the passion and determination to qualify in everyone in the team and I am encouraged to work harder because everyone is in good shape.” Said Makuto.
The team captain Mercy Moim will head straight to Yaounde Cameroon where she is expected to link up with the rest of the team that land on 10th February ahead of the Olympic qualifiers.
Moim has confirmed that she has already received her traveling ticket and confirmed flight itinerary from the Kenya Volleyball Federation.
“I have two crucial Finland Cup matches on Saturday and Sunday. I therefore will have to travel immediately after the match and head straight to Cameroon to link up with the rest of the players.” Moim confirmed.
Moim has been a key player for her team in Finland standing tall as the top points’ scorer.
She was recently appointed the new national team captain taking over from France based Brackcides Khadambi.
Team coaches led by Japheth Munala have already named the final traveling squad that leaves Nairobi on 10th of February.
The Olympics qualifiers will be played in Yaounde Cameroon between February 12th and 19th
The qualifiers attracted 17 countries which are Algeria, Tunisia, Gambia, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Ghana, Congo RDC, Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Egypt, Uganda, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Madagascar.
