Emuhaya residents urged to create cemeteries
The Bunyore council of elders has proposed that each village in Emuhaya creates its own cemetery.
The move is as a result of the scarcity of land and space experienced in the area.
The Bunyore council of elders discussed and proposed that at least each sub location comes up with a cemetery to bury their beloved ones.
Speaking to West Fm, Emuhaya area M.P Dr Wilbur Ottichilo said that despite having small pieces of land, the larger percentage of the available arable land has been marred with graves a thing that has left the residents with little pieces of land for farming.

“I discussed with our council of elders and reached a consensus that no compound should have cemented graves and mausoleums, the graves take most of the land wasting it”, he said.
“The family can set aside a small area to be the family burial ground, rather than waste land by putting graves everywhere.” Ottichilo added.
He urged the county government to come in handy and help in purchasing land that can be set aside as the county’s graveyard.
The challenge, he said was whether the residents of Emuhaya will support the move.
“Our people love burying their loved ones in front of their houses, we might face a challenge here but I am certain that with time, this will be achievable”, the legislator remarked.
The Emuhaya Legislator also urged residents from the Western Kenya region to turn up in large numbers and register as voters.
Leadership is taken, not given. We must therefore prepare to make a difference and have a bargaining power in the forthcoming elections by registering as voters.
He urged other leaders from the region to spearhead the voter registration process and encourage the people they to lead register as voters.
“I have provided a vehicle to ferry the old and people living with disabilities to the voter registration centers, my colleagues in the region should also encourage people to register in large numbers” he held.
