Management of Webuye Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Webuye town has blamed an ongoing boundary dispute between Webuye west and Webuye east constituencies for the stall in the expansion of the institute.
The schools principal Lavu Musa said that the school is lying in a four piece hectare of land in Webuye east whereas the school has another ten hectare of land in the neighboring Webuye west.
He said that efforts to have the piece of land developed has been frustrated politically after the two constituencies that used to be one the larger Webuye were separated.
While speaking to journalist in his office on Tuesday Lavu revealed that the school that has a population of 600 students only offers three courses contrary to other facilities like in Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret.
“We are denying our students opportunities to study different courses given in other schools like mental health Xray, laboratory technology and many more that can be offered if this school is expanded,” he said.
He said the students from the facility give proper services at the Webuye district hospital that is also in Webuye west close to the piece of land without knowing any boundary issue.
Lavu said that the leaders should intervene and help expand the college to see residents get access to proper medication and avoid the numerous trips made to Moi Referral in Eldoret.
He called upon the county governor Kenneth Lusaka to liaise with the area leaders and stakeholders to see the school build more facilities at the piece of land lying idle and set up a big college that will give more courses and services.
Lavu said that the expansion of the college will provide more employment opportunities to the graduates because of the shortage of nurses and doctors across the country that will enable quality care and services.
He said the school is able to admit more students and offer quality care to help salvage the high demand of medical practitioners in the counties
