Cabinet secretary Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Fred Matiang’i today visited Keveye girl’s Secondary school over claims that corporal punishment was being meted at the institution.

This comes after a video emerged on social media showing the students being caned by their teachers ruthlessly at the School.

Matiang’i who was accompanied by other TSC officials visited the school impromptu and said the claims will be investigated and handled by the Director of Teachers Service Commission
Stephen Mudho, his counterpart in the Ministry of Education Anne Kiilu and board of management (B.O.G).

He gave out the team up to next week to come up with a detailed report about the matter for further action.

“We humbly respect the independence of the Commission and we want it to handle the matter together with board members professionally,” said   Matiang’i.

The cabinet secretary also commended the institution’s principal Judith Ngome for improved performance and discipline of the students.

“I am happy with the leadership and management of the school. The principal has strived to improve the performance since she was posted here,” said Matiang’i.

At the same time he promised to build new dormitory and post more teachers at the school to cater for the 1300 students at the school.

“Good performance at the school has attracted more students who have now exhausted the existing facilities,” He said.

The school principal has since denied the said claims arguing that the video is meant to taint the image of the school adding that corporal punishment had been banned in public schools long ago.
