Parents urged to support children’s talents
Parents in Bungoma south sub county have been urged to support talents of their school going children as a way of encouraging them to take on what they love.
Speaking to West Fm during the annual sub county drama festival at Bungoma High School, the secretary of the school heads association Mr. Khisa Toili said that some parents have been restricting their children from participating in curriculum activities, a thing that has been hindering their prosperity.
“I want to encourage parents to give support to their children who have passion in drama and acting as these are some of the high paying carriers in the twenty first century, “said Toili.
He added that he was so happy to see that Bungoma south sub county got so many talents from the students who participated in the event .
Toili gave an example of number famous actors in the Kenyan industry , the likes of Mshamba and Papa Shirandula who make a living out of acting and doing what they love.
“Drama is not a waste of time. Drama supplements education and with the plans of the national government to introduce talent based education system, everyone will be well taken care of and those with passion in music, drama, and sports will benefit,” posed Toili.
He also asked teachers who limit students with books alone to stop doing so and allow them use their talents as a way of embracing change.
“Look at musicians like Frasha, he has a degree in medicine but choose to do music. The famous Kofi Olimide holds a masters in economics but earns a living through music, therefore talent pays, “said Toili.
A number of schools were awarded in different categories, ranging from standup comedy, Narratives , solo and choral verses, traditional and modern dances and plays that were staged during the competition.
Friends school Bukembe were awarded with the trophy of having the most original, creative drama that ruled the festival, and the award of having the best costumes.
St. Peter’s Musikoma scoped the award of the best comedian and Best presentation in solo verse.
Bungoma high school who were the host swooped the award of having the best choral verse and modern dance with lots of originality and creativity.
The winning list had Bukembe boys emerging as the best in narrative, Nzoia girls taking position two as Kongoli secondary settle at number three.
Bungoma high school smashed Bukembe who has been all years giant in cultural dance to take position one and book a spot at the county competition.
Choral verses were dominated by Bungoma high, Musikoma and Bukembe high school.
Namachanja high school presented the best play followed by Kibabii and Lwanda school.
All the winning schools ranging from number one to three will meet at Friends School Kamusinga for the county competition starting on 24th- 27th next week.
The regionals will be staged at Tartar girls in West Pokot from 7th-13th March before heading to Meru at Kaaga girls for the Nationals from 3rd -15th of April.
