Busia County blamed of selective payments
The county government of Busia has been criticized for selective paying of contractors after they have delivered their services.
While addressing West media at Busia polytechnic grounds after a special general meeting of all contractors in Busia county the chairman of Busia regions contractors session Peter Magero said that the county government of Busia has been practicing selective payments to contractors.
“They are selectively paying contractors and also issuing tenders and we need an explanation why this is going on?” He asked.

Magero questioned the role of members of county assemblies in terms of development as he said that they had forgotten their work of over sighting and instead they were busy picking contractors to carry out contracts in their wards.
“There is over 1.3 billion shillings that has been set aside for the 35 wards in Busia county however the MCA’s are calling special friends and handing them contracts yet their role is to oversight.” He added.
Magero added that failure of the governor of Busia not to attend the meeting showed that he was in support of the confusion being perpetrated by the MCA’s in terms of issuing of tenders arguing that they should leave the work of accountability to chief officers and they continue with their role of oversight.
He faulted the county government for not following the law when issuing of contracts as they have not set up an evaluation board which has to be set before advertising of tenders and issuing them yet people have been awarded tenders.
He wondered why the county government was issuing tenders to unqualified people and leaving out qualified contractors cautioning the governor and MCA’s to stop giving out contracts to people close to them and instead everybody to follow the due tendering process as stipulated by the law.
However the contractors assured the county government that they would work together to ensure they deliver the services to the people and also achieve the goal of the governor and further thanking him for ensuring the youth get the 30% tenders as required
