Education CS praised for KNEC disbandment
Trans Nzoia county woman MP Janet Nangabo has supported the disbandment of the Board of Directors in the Kenya National Examinations Council and sacking of officials of the council by the cabinet secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
MP Janet Nangabo said this during the burial of the late Maiba Chepkosbei Burman, an old woman who died at the age of 114 years at Machewa ward in Saboti constituency.
She said there is rot in the council which has been witnessed by acts of corruption as the officials who work in the examination council have been colluding with several principals to leak exams in schools compromising the quality of education offered.
She said that some officials at KNEC are responsible for examination cheating in schools because they are custodians of education and should tell the public why and how did examination papers got into the hands of students, teachers and some parents..

The county MP said that parents and students have been affected by the examinations cancellations making them carry the burden while officials responsible are scot free.
The county MP also criticized the manner into which Coalition for Reforms and Democracy CORD has been crying foul on the I.E.B.C criticizing it for the cancelled signatures meant to take the country on a
Referendum terming the criticisms as baseless and misplaced.
She said the electoral commission did what was within its powers and advised the opposition on the mistakes it did and it was its duty to make sure that such mistakes are corrected and be taken back to the electoral body again for scrutiny.
Her sentiments was echoed by water and irrigation cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa who criticized the opposition on its continued criticisms on I.E.B.C saying their criticisms were not positive and only is aimed at dividing Kenyans.
The cabinet secretary advised the opposition to use the rightful means as envisaged in the constitution to demand for their rights instead of politicizing the whole issue setting the peaceful citizens against one another.
He termed such utterances as dangerous especially as the nation is preparing to go to the next General Elections calling upon the citizens to continue staying in harmony they have done before and avoid being divided by politicians who only want to achieve their selfish interests.
He said CORD has a right to complain on issues it feels is not right but has to use proper mechanisms in place in accordance with the law asking it to respect the decision that I.E.B.C made and if any complaint then should be lodged in a proper manner.

The cabinet secretary wondered why the opposition is comfortable when I.E.B.C decides well on issues that goes on their way especially in the last By elections when a candidate from Malindi won elections and was declared a winner , the credit was on IEBC.
Adding also the case that was facing senator for Bungoma County who doubles up as Ford Kenya party leader as well as minority leader in the senate when I.E.B.C decided that his name won’t be removed from the voters register, the opposition was happy but when it decides contrary to their wishes, it’s the same opposition criticizing the electoral commission terming such criticisms as selfish.
He called upon the residents to avoid divisive politics and continue to stay in peace with other saying its God who gives you a neighbor and such neighborhood should be embraced by every citizen of this
nation so that the culture of peace continues to thrive amongst the residents of the county.
