Nandi chiefs told to end illicit brew or be sacked
Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Mr. Wanyama Musiambo has given a directive to chiefs and their assistants in Nandi county to end the menace of illicit brews within the ultimatum of Four days or face a sack.
Addressing the security meeting at Deliverance Social Hall which brought together the chiefs, assistant chiefs and the assistant county commissioners from the six sub-counties of Nandi, Musiambo tasked the team to end the illicit brew in their area of jurisdiction giving them an ultimatum of Four days.
Musiambo insisted that the business of illicit brewing should immediately come to an end saying that the chiefs and their assistants are the security at the grass roots level who knows very well those spearheading the vice thus directing them to either bring it to an end or face summary dismissal.
He said Nandi county is one of the most peaceful counties in the entire country but the issue of illicit brews is the cause of all the crimes and therefore should be congested.
The Regional coordinator further said crime rates in Nandi county is very low applauding the efforts of the residents in com-busting peace keeping and focusing on development.
Concerning the issue of border differences, Musiambo asked the security team to work together with the peace committees along the border to end cattle rustling.
“Border differences are caused by individual cattle thieves not the community” He said.
Thus asked members of the public to assist in curbing the menace which he said more than 80% of theft in the borders of Kisumu and Nandi are by collusion whereas 50% of cattle are stolen from this borders.
Above all, the chiefs were instructed to ensure the Identification cards that have stagnated in the registry are given out to the owners within a period of one month.
He said Nandi county alone has a total of over 5,000 ID’S that are uncollected thereby requesting the chiefs in partnership with the assistant chiefs to collect them and give to the owners.
“Identification cards is a civic duty that every one must exercise thus I direct each an every chief to go to registry and collect the ids of his/her location so as to disperse them to the owners” He said.
