New coach Stanley Okumbi has retained Victor Wanyama as Harambee Stars captain.
The Southampton midfielder took over the armband from Dennis Oliech when Adel Amrouche was appointed to handle the side two years ago and continued with the role during Bobby Williamson’s reign.
However, despite naming a relatively new side for upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau, coach Okumbi has opted to retain Wanyama for continuity.
“Wanyama will continue to serve as the captain of the side. He has qualities of a leader any coach would want and I am confident he will handle the role perfectly.” Okumbi said.

However, Okumbi has maintained that Kenya have a chance to beat Guinea Bissau in the away fixture.
“I have confident in the team I named and I have confident in my technical bench members. My request is for Kenyans to rally behind the team and stop blame games. This is a new era in Kenyan football and we need to support one another.” He added.
Stars badly need maximum points against the West Africans, with whom they are placed joint bottom in Group ‘E’, to revive their chances of playing at the next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Kenya drew away to the Republic of Congo, and then lost at home to Zambia in her opening two games of this competition last year.
Kenya will face Guinea Bissau on Wednesday March 23 with the return leg set to be played in Nairobi four days later.
