The disabled unsatisfied with release of funds
People living with disability in Kimilili Sub County have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Bungoma County government for having released 7.5 million shillings only out of the set aside 18 million shillings for the disabled groups in the County.
Led by Hamisi Waliaula the Kimilili and Kibingei groups said it is unfortunate that the County government released the money insufficiently saying the groups in all the forty five wards were receiving fifty thousand shillings instead of one hundred thousand.
He disclosed that they had waited for the fund for a very long period of time saying the County government should have released the whole amount of money set aside to enable them start their proposed development projects saying the little they have received will not be able to fully fund their projects.
“People living with disabilities have for a very long period of time been looked down upon and we will not sit down and watch as some people try to take advantage of our situations as we are also tax payers and are entitled to be well served,” he said.
However the officer in charge of people living with disabilities Stella Chetambe called upon them to make use of the funds received saying being a loan they have to repay it within twenty four months which will guarantee them a chance to borrow more.
She said the groups have the capability of applying for tenders in various sectors such as schools to knit for them uniforms or make for them desks as most of them are skilled in the sector and are therefore able to repay the loan in time.
“I will be visiting the groups to check on their progress to ensure they are progressing on well with the funded projects in order to empower them to overcome the many obstacles in life and have them live a comfortable life just like other members of the society,” she said.
