Former Councillors asks MPs to pass their bill
Former councillors have asked members of parliament not to hesitate to pass the bill that has been proposed by West Pokot Senator professor John Lonyangapuo.
The bill will see each former councilor earn a one off payment of 1.5 million shillings and 30,000 shillings benefits per month.
While addressing journalists after meeting over 40 councilors in Busia, chairman of former councilors Busia branch who also doubles up as the assistant secretary on the national level Alex Ayieko thanked the labor committee in the senate led by Lonyangapuo for proposing such a bill.
The proposed bill is awaiting approval by the national assembly before the president signing it.
He asked the members of the august house not to hesitate passing the bill but to unanimously pass the bill.
According to Ayieko the bill states that apart from the one of payment of 1.5 million shillings and monthly allowance of 30,000 shillings they would have a medical insurance, free parking and also space on the speakers gallery.
He added that they were the people who laid the structures that the county governments all over the country are using insisting that they have not been recognized for that, remarks that were seconded by the organizing secretary of the group David Ogea.
Ogea said that they are the foundation of everything in the country and all MPs should speak in one voice despite their parties to ensure that they help the former councilors get that pay off.
He lamented how the current MCAs do not want to associate with them as they are viewed as poor and people who did nothing citing how the county government has neglected them and the governor of Busia has not met them despite them trying on numerous occasions.
Ogea asked the governor of Busia Sospeter Ojaamong to follow in the footsteps of his counterparts from Bungoma, Kisii and Kakamega who have met the former councilors in their counties and also started giving them small stipends so that they can put food on the table.
Ayieko further added that they would have felt more proud if the MCA,s had finished some of the projects they begun instead of starting similar projects and neglecting those stalled projects further demanding for respect from the current MCAs.
They thanked the ICC court for dropping the case of deputy president William Ruto and Joshua arap Sang saying this was a step in uniting Kenyans.
They further said that they would support the jubilee government after it had heard their cry of suffering after being neglected for a long time
