Governor Kachapin launches 29M water project
West Pokot County government has launched rehabilitation and upgrade of a multi-million Sigor water project in Pokot central sub county set to end water shortage in the semi-arid area.
The project which was initiated by the National government almost three decades ago will be upgraded by the County government and will include the setting up of a treatment plant to ensure residents get clean and safe water.
Speaking during the commissioning of the rehabilitation of the project on Thursday Governor Simon Kachapin said the project will cost the County government 29 million.

He said the County government is also rehabilitating water facilities that had stalled due to poor management.
Kachapin said the project will benefit more than 5000 residents in Sigor town and its environs adding that his government will also put up a Water line to improve its efficiency.
“West Pokot residents have not had access to safe water for a very long time, that is why my government is also in the process of completing a water pipeline improve access to clean water,” he said.
He assured residents that his government is committed in ensuring residents get access to clean and safe water, which was a luxury before devolved units came in place.
“We have channeled a huge budget to the water sector to ensure residents have clean and safe water for use and also for irrigation,” he said.
The County chief said provision of clean water remains a priority for his government that will help reduce the outbreak of typhoid and other water borne diseases.
Residents thanked the County government initiative that will greatly transform the region and ensure good health.
“We are very happy with this project because we will get clean water. This project will also improve our food production through irrigation,” said.
The residents called on the County government to ensure proper supervision of the project that is set to be implemented in several months.
The Governor however called on residents to support his administration in implementing its development plan.
He said he is committed to ensure devolution becomes a game changer in transforming the narrative of the Pokot community.
“It is only through devolution that we can realize all this projects. I will continue to spearhead more development in the grassroots to ensure we achieve sustainable development,”
