Likuyani Boda boda operators decry insecurity
Boda boda operators in Likuyani Sub County have expressed concerns over what they described as increasing cases of insecurity along the road between Soy and Sango trading centres.
This follows an incident in which Likuyani Sub County Boda boda Operators Chairperson; Mr. Francis Balongo lost his motorbike to machete-armed gang that left him and his passenger, identified as Leonard Juma, with deep injuries.
The two were rescued and rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital where they are nursing machete injuries on their heads.
Speaking to the press in Likuyani trading center, hundreds of boda boda workers led by Bakari Wekesa and Amos Tobolo castigated the 9.pm incident.
The two spokespersons further claimed apart from the chairperson, several other boda bodas plying the route were also harassed by the thugs the same night.
“I am one of those who were roughed up by the hooded thugs,” revealed Wekesa who however, managed to escaped from the gang’s dragnet before speeding away on his motorbike.
The agitated boda bodas alleged that a total of four motorbikes belonging to their colleagues have been lost to thugs along that section of the road in the past one week.
They alleged that the thugs had taken advantage of the poor state of road particularly at ‘Kwa Reuben’ area where they hide and attack them since they cannot speed off when they sense danger especially during this rainy season.
The operators have now threatened to hold peaceful demonstrations in case the road is not rehabilitated and security beefed in the identified section.
