Police recruitment in Trans Nzoia end smoothly

Trans Nzoia County Police recruitment exercise kicked off smoothly with no incidents of corruption and cheating reported for the rest of the exercise in the entire sub county centers that the exercise was conducted.

Addressing the media after the final exercise at Kenyatta stadium in Kitale, the Director for Cooperate Support Service at the police commission Peter Wamoto said that the exercise was conducted under the realms of law as is required in the constitution of Kenya and thanked all the youths who turned up for the function to try their luck.

He said his major task was to see that the right recruits are given a chance to join the police service which he said attracted many youths who turned up for the exercise.

The exercise kicked off smoothly despite being interrupted by the morning rainfall which affected the timetable.

It slated to kick off at exactly 8.30 am but the rains forced it to be pushed to 9.00 am following heavy down pour that was realized in the morning hours.

The Director gave credit to the recruitment exercise that was conducted terming it as being different and unique from others that was conducted during the previous years.

The director however could not divulge the numbers of new recruits expected to join police service even after being asked to give the number of recruits that the county and sub counties were expected to present to the respective training centers.

He stood his ground despite  persistent questions from the journalist who wanted to know the number of recruits expected to join the training centers from the county saying he was not mandated to give the numbers to journalists.

“We have slots for every center this particular center am not sure I can be able to tell you exact number and let me not commit myself on that and entire county we also would not commit ourselves to that”, said Wamoto.

Unlike last year’s exercise where there was cases of fake examination papers confisticated from two recruits at Kenyatta stadium this time there was no any.

Last year several recruits cried foul in the manner the recruiting officers shortchanged a female candidate who qualified even by leading others in tracks’ but later on shortchanged under the guise of tribal balancing, the case was this year not reported.

A good number of youths took part in the exercise with those selected to join the service giving credit to the exercise as they said it was free and fair and there was no acts of corruption malpractices.

They said since the force entails someone’s ability to be ready to serve, they will be ready to serve anywhere within the country including the worst hit areas of the nation that has been faced with cases of insecurity especially in Kenyan borders of Somalia, Sudan as well as areas faced with acts of cattle rustlings within the country.

However those who could not qualify complained over several requirements in place that was mandatory by the force mentioning ability for a recruit to have a certain height before he is allowed to join the service.

Others complained of the requirement to have better teeth and a good curved foot terming such requirements as outdated and need not to be a requirement in future as now what the police need is skills  and knowledge to tackle those persons with evil intentions of wanting to cause havoc amongst the peaceful citizens.
