Shock as strangers exhume bodies in Kiminini

Residents at Meso farm of Baraton location Kiminini Constituency woke up to shock when unknown group of people arrived and started exhuming bodies of people who died some long time ago.

Speaking at the scene, a brother of whom the body of his brother was exhumed Vincent Barasa Matumbai, said he was out on his official duty when he was told that a grave belonging to his brother had been exhumed, he decided to rush home and upon arrival found his brothers tomb actually exhumed but covered again by his young brothers.

He was infuriated by the action that was taken by his brothers as he disclosed that it was wrong for them to have covered the tomb again terming the action against their culture and the Luhya tradition as the work could have only been done by the elders terming the action as unfortunate and which might bring bad omen to the family.

He said the strangers’ intentions is not known and only speculated that intruders might have intention of using the bodies of their loved ones for paraphernalia reasons.

Baraton Location chief Mrs. Mildred Chesoli confirming the shoking incident said  strangers arrived at the village and visited the homes of three, Dorcas Vuguza, Getrude Wanjala and Catherine Nelima exhumed the bodies of their dead husbands and throw away a skull from one of the tombs almost 500m from the scene.

She said the intruders first went to the home of Dorcas Vuguza and tried to exhume the body but didn’t get to the body and left with the post erected at the grave with flowers that was put on the grave and proceeded to the widows home where they placed the items at her door.

She went on to explain that they then visited another home, Gertrude Wanjala’s where they managed to exhume body of the dead, took out all the clothing that the dead was buried with and threw it out of the grave.

The gang then proceeded to the third homestead of Catherine Nelima, exhumed the body and took away the skull of the dead and throw it away 500 meters from the scene.

The area chief said it was the first time such incidences are happening in her location and was furious in the manner the family for Gertrude wanjala decided to cover the grave saying they could not have done so.

She said the strangers might have had plans of using the body parts of the dead for witch craft missions terming the incidents as ill intended thanking locals for having remained calm.

She said she planned to hold a meeting and discuss the way forward about the scenarios that unfolded in the village so that they put to an end any other actions that might arise.

She further called upon all the nyumba kumi people and village elders to remain vigilant and report any persons they might come along with questionable characters.

The local chief disclosed that so far five people have been arrested two are from the families whose bodies were exhumed and are helping police with investigations.
