Woman arraigned in court for killing husband
A 68 years old woman accused of stabbing her husband to death over a plate of githeri has been arraigned in a Kakamega court.
Before judge Chacha Mwita,the accused by name Rose Mihanda pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Represented by advocate Brian Minish, the accused denied killing the late Maurice Chiveya at their home in Khayega sub location and instead requested that the prosecution gives evidence to the statements recorded by eye witnesses.
The prosecutor Patrick Oroni told the court that he has enough evidence against the accused including statements from an investigating officer and an eye witness.
It is alleged that at her home near Khayega shopping centre, the accused while drunk arrived home from the river and found his husband eating githeri that had been given to her by a neighbor when she reacted by taking a knife and stabbing him on the chest , killing him instantly.
The incident took place at Khayega shopping center in Shinyalu Sub County of Kakamega County on 26th March 2016.
Mihanda was the man’s inherited wife after her husband passed on a few years ago.
The case will be heard on 27th July 2016.
