Athletics Kenya scraps off CEO position
Athletics Kenya (AK) has eliminated the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in its new constitutional dispensation.
According to the new constitution passed during the AK Annual General Meeting (AGM) the post was scrapped and replaced with the seat of Secretary General.
Before the last AK polls, the post of Secretary General was scrapped and replaced with that of a CEO which was non elective.
The measures is designed to give more powers to the chairman to tame the powerful position of Secretary General whose holders were virtually the defector leaders of the association.
According to the old constitution that was passed in 2013 the secretary general and his deputy shall be employees of the association answerable to the AK board.
In the new constitution the new posts that will be contested for in the next AK polls due next year in April will be President, four vice presidents, secretary general, assistant secretary general, treasurer, assistant treasurer, public relations officer and three committee officials.
The President shall preside over all meetings of the AGM, the executive and those committees of which he or she is appointed chairperson, and will represent the federation in all dealings and meetings with the IAAF, the National Olympic Committee and other political bodies and organizations.
He/she will also, in close co-operation with the executive, be responsible for the oversight of the operations of the federation’s office and, where appropriate, take such measures as he or she considers necessary for the proper administration of the federation
