Governor defends 300 million hotel project
West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has defended a multi-million Hotel project by the County government saying it will help boost tourism sector in the region.
Kachapin said the Hotel and Hospitality training centre will offer great platform for growth of Tourism sector in the County and boost local revenue.
This comes amid criticism from area senator John Lonyangapuo who has termed the project a misplaced priority.
Kachapin said the senator is fond of witch hunt and cannot see anything good his administration has done.
But speaking over the weekend after inspecting the 300 million project at Kopoch in Riwo ward, Governor Kachapin accompanied by Hotel experts from the Ministry of Tourism said the project is a great milestone in opening up the region to investors.
“Our County remains a hidden treasure with a lot of beauty and nature and such project will help improve investment and open up the region,” he said.
He said the County government will continue with the project despite criticism while urging locals to ignore propaganda being spread from some quarters of leaders.
“All the County projects have been done through proper public participation including the county leadership I wonder why my senator is always criticizing my government,”
Kachapin said many people criticizing the county government on its development projects were ignorant on the works being carried out in their areas.
The governor told “doubting Thomases” that it was their duty to find out what the county government was doing.
He said the first phase of the Hotel project will be completed next year and called on residents to be patient as work is being undertaken.
He added that establishment of the hotel will create hundreds of job to locals and offer business to local investors in the hospitality industry.
The hotel is about 30 minutes’ drive from Makutano town is on a tourist attraction site with a great view point and natural habitat.
“This is a tourist attraction area where you come and enjoy the beauty nature and get a chance for a great unique bird watching, We will engage engaging with experts in the sector esure we come up a state of the art hotel,” added Kachapin.
The County boss however said the three years project will greatly help solve the problem of accommodation in Makutano town noting that the County has a big challenge in the hospitality sector.
“Such facilities will help us once we have big function like the Investment summit the County government is planning to have mid-October this year.
