Tension ensued at Turbo trading center in Uasin Gishu county following reports that members of the outlawed Al –Shabaab terror group had been spotted entering the Turbo mosque.

Detectives and police officers from Eldoret and Lugari surrounded the mosque to ensure no one escaped before they entered in to track the said terrorists.

The mid-morning Friday incident disrupted normal business activities at the center as well as transport along the busy Eldoret – Webuye highway causing heavy traffic snarl up after the road was closed for some time as the officers conducted their operation at the mosque.

According to Eldoret West OCPD Mr. Samuel Mutunga they were working on an order from police headquarters in Nairobi after they had received a call from a person who alleged he had seen Al-Shabaab devotees enter the mosque.

On combing the mosque there was no member associated with the terror group apart from the usual faithful from the surrounding who was going on with their mid-morning prayers.

However, the officers managed to arrest two people inside the mosque for more interrogation after it was confirmed that they were the ones who called and gave the wrong information to the security apparatus.

They also found the mobile phone used in making make the calls.

The OCPD said preliminary investigations had established that the two had personal differences with one of their colleagues at the mosque whom they decided to associate with the terror group adding his officers were still scrutinizing the matter.

He, however, assured residents that all was well dispelling fear that had mounted following the misleading information.
