Thousands of residents thronged Mitume catholic church to pay their last respects to the fallen father Jacob Barasa who died last week while undergoing treatment at Mount Elgon hospital.
Father Jacob Barasa was born on 2nd January 1975 at Sirende station Naitiri Bungoma County. He was a lecturer at Kibabii University before his death.
Father Barasa died of high Blood pressure last week at Mt Elgon Hospital before his body transferred to Kiminini hospital cottage.
Father Barasa once served as a padre at Mitume Catholic Church before being transferred to Saboti to head the catholic parish of the region.
Several speakers led by catholic arch bishop for Kitale Maurice Anthony Crowley paid tribute to the late father Jacob Barasa praising him for his dedication towards the work of God.
He termed him as a person who persisted in making sure that the flocks he led didn’t waver but followed the right path based on the Bible’s teachings.
The sisters of the church led by sister Magdalene congratulated the late father for his unwavering and relentless efforts to see that the Gospel is spread within the county and said they have lost a true friend who was dear and always ready to work with them in every aspects.
They termed him as a man who gave counseling to all the age sets including the children, youth, and the old alike. They appreciated the work and spiritual guidance he offered to them which helped them in day to day lives pointing out that they have lost a true friend saying the vacuum will be hard to be filled.
Trans Nzoia County senator Henry Ole Ndiema appealed to all the leaders to preach peace and stop dividing the otherwise peaceful residents of the county based on political affiliations.
Governor for Trans Nzoia County however on his part blamed politicians for fanning violence and disunity amongst the peaceful citizens of the country giving an example of the previous post election violence which rocked the whole country of violence setting the citizens against each other rendering some homeless.
He called for sobriety amongst all leaders to chart a way forward of finding solutions to the problems now bedeviling the citizens instead of wrestling to show who is more popular than the other.
Khaemba insisted that for the nation to move forward in peaceful manner, all leaders should talk in one voice and avoid being dishonest with what they normally stand for and pronounce.
He said this country might go into inter community fights if the situation is left to go on stating this was a warning that the nation.
Other leaders who were at the function include the area MCA Daddy Were who appealed to residents to remain peaceful and embrace each other as the county is set for the next General elections next year.
