As Muslims start fasting during this holy month of Ramadhan, calls has been made to ensure that they embrace peace as they pray and fast as a way of showing more dedications to their faith.

Speaking at the Jamia mosque of Kitale, Imam Adam Hassan appealed to all Muslims in the county to avoid being subjected to acts that can be seen as maligning other peoples reputation be it a Muslim or non Muslim.

He said Muslim denomination means ‘peace’ and it would be better for all the faithful to practice the faith putting in mind the constitutional rights of every Kenyan to be a follower of any faith of choice.

He down played the notion that has been propagated by individuals who have been linking the Muslim faith to terrorists and tarnishing its reputation terming them as enemies of the Muslim faith.

Imam Adam Hassan said there was nowhere in the holy Book of Quran where it gives a Muslims an opportunity to attack their fellow brothers based on faith differences or indulge in unlawful acts saying those found terrorizing others must be dealt with according to the law.

He said that the government need to treat such people who have been involved in acts of lawlessness as normal law breakers or terrorists who are out and determined to see that the Muslim faith is portrayed with negative deeds that are unacceptable even with the faith

He however called for respect of all peoples rights asking all the Muslims to respect non Muslims and also the non Muslims to reciprocate the Muslim faithfuls as they go about with their prayers and fasting during this holy month of Ramadhan.

The imam appealed to the Government to provide security for the Muslims as they go for their prayers calling for patrols to be increased.

He disclosed that during this month Muslims use several means of transport to locate to their mosque for prayers, mentioning some as having cars, while others use foot to reach to the mosque and would be prudent enough for the policemen to offer enough security.

He also appealed to the Muslim to view policemen as their brothers and if approached by them to help forge a good working relationship between them so that the atmosphere of harmony and good working relationship is attained.

He appealed to all the Muslim to observe this month and put all their energies in praying and fasting so that their prayers are accepted Allah.
