The Kenyan chapter of veteran and retired athletes Masters Athletics Kenya (MAK) has been formed to cater for their welfare.
The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) chairman legendary Kipchoge Keino, was appointed as the patron of the organization.
Former Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) chairman and national universities and colleges 3000 m steeplechase record holder Barnabas Kitilit was elected as president of the organization with former national heptathlon record holder Sarah Kiwanuka who once chaired Athletics Kenya (AK) Nairobi branch being elected to deputize Kitilit.

Four time Boston Marathon champion Catherine Ndereba Head of Kenya’s Olympics committee, ‘The Great’ was elected as the treasurer while former athlete and a South Rift based coach Bernard Kipyator will serve as the secretary general.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) position has been given to former All Africa Games and Africa Senior Athletics javelin record holder and who currently holds Kenya’s national shotput record Elizabeth Olaba.
The AK Makueni County chairman Joseph Illovi is MAK’s Technical Director.
However, the 1987 Nairobi All Africa Games 800m silver medalist Stephen Ole Marai, former national 400m hurdles national record holder Rose Tata Muya are committee members.
AK Nairobi branch chairman Barnaba’ Governor’ Korir , Athletics Kenya museum curator Francis Nyatome , University of Nairobi (UON) sports medicine lecturer Bariasha and AK West Pokot county chairman and coach Sammy Ruto are co-opted members.
MAK will organize, regulate and administer athletics for masters (women and men of not less than thirty-five years of age).
MAK will also enter a team for the World Masters Athletics Stadia (outdoor) Championships slated for October 26-November 6 in Perth, Australia.
