Vihiga County on Tuesday 7th of July 2016 received a mobile clinic from the first lady Margaret Kenyatta in a bid to reduce maternal deaths in the area.
The first lady who donated the 41st mobile clinic to Vihiga County said the mobile facility would help in improving the lives of expectant women and children who are in remote areas.

The first lady has been issuing the clinics as part of her elaborate plans of reducing maternal deaths on her beyond zero campaigns.
She said the facility is given through the general support of Kenyans in partnership with private sector, County and National government to save lives of mothers and children.
She said the beyond zero clinics donated in various counties supplements county efforts of reducing maternal and child mortality and support health services in the Country.
The first lady also noted that Vihiga County had significant number of expectant women who have no access to ante-natal and post care health services.
“Investing in health services will help us achieve our vision 2030 of healthy and prosperous population,” said Mrs. Kenyatta.

She added that establishment of the County medical training college was a critical step in building capacity of hospitals in the area to champion the health of the people.
“I am happy about the upgrade of six health facilities in the five sub counties by the county government which will help our citizens,” said Kenyatta.
She said great progress had been made in limitation of mother to child HIV transmission and government is keen on reducing maternal and child mortality rates, HIV transmission and malnutrition among children.

Flanked by area governor Moses Akaranga at Mbale high school during the official handing over of the mobile clinic, the first lady thanked Kenyans and sponsors who have helped in the course.
The area governor Moses Akaranga however appealed to the National government to channel more funds towards the health sector to improve the lives of the citizens.
“We are calling upon the national government to transfer more funds towards the health sector in the counties to improve infrastructure and add more work force,” said the governor.
The governor said the county government in collaboration with national government has purchased modern medical equipments to be used in the health facilities.
