Youths and women have been urged to register their groups and use them in applying for tenders from the government so that they fulfill the 30% requirement that is set aside for them by the national government.
Addressing Joywo women group at Kipkeikei primary school in Cherangany Sub County, deputy president’s wife Rachel Ruto appealed to women and youths to make good use of their large population and form groups that are registered so that they use them in applying for loans from the government and engage in development projects of the country.
Most tenders do not reflect youth and women
She said that she was dismayed when she learnt that most tenders that are done in several procurement government offices do not reflect the youth groups and women as its normally awarded to men.
She asked them to make use of their available opportunities to apply for the tenders.
Mrs Ruto also advised them to seek more information through the MPs office and the county so that they attain the necessary knowledge in handling and applying the said tenders and compete favorably with other players who have taken advantage of their ignorance in tender application knowledge.
The second lady promised the group that the deputy president will contribute Ksh. 5,000,000 towards elevating the group so that they can use the money to invest in meaningful projects.
Leaders warned against squandering group money
She however advised leaders elected in different groups to show leadership qualities to their members and avoid squandering money meant for the groups development adding that the level of trust amongst leaders of the groups was wanting and called upon all to address the issues affecting the group in amicable way.
“I have come to learn that nowadays women are so corrupt even than men, some leaders have been squandering money meant for their respective groups and fail to achieve the purposes for which the group had agreed to accomplish,” said the second lady amid applause from the crowd.
Women advised to be open to their husbands
She advised women to be open to their husbands and tell them the much they have acquired as a result of their involvement in various groups so that they win the trust and set them free to go about their daily chores without raising eyebrows.
She complained that there has been domestic violence among several homes emanating from mistrust amongst their spouses and the major cases being dishonesty in the manner several funds were realized and used.
She advised women to continue obeying their husbands and avoid acts that can lead to the breakages of their marriages which can cost their families and lead to children to suffer as a result of disagreements between parents.
Urged to apply for tenders
The county Mp Janet Nangabo on her part advised the women and youth groups to apply for tenders in respective government offices as well as apply for money in various financial institutions and use the money in investing in meaningful projects that can aid them earn a better living.
She also promised to provide Ksh. 5,000,000 to the group so that the money can be put in meaningful projects and alleviate poverty that is rife especially amongst the women from the county.
Work as a team
She called upon the women to embrace one another and stop looking down on each other but accept each other and work as a team for the meaningful development to be achieved so that poverty is eradicated.
The CEC for Culture, Sports and Social services for Trans Nzoia county Eunice Jelimo Ndiwa promised to take the initiative of offering education to the youth and women groups so that they are empowered in making drastic developments that can be beneficial to them.
She said that her ministry has allocated Ksh. 34,000,000 to various women groups in the county and is working towards making sure that women are empowered so that they live decent lives and compete with men in development projects within the county.
