Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka has feted Friends School – Bukembe and Lugulu Girls at his residence after the schools emerged winners in the just concluded Nzoia Regional Secondary School Games.
At a breakfast meeting with the triumphant teams at his official residence at Webuye, Luaska said that that sports is the best unifying factor that should be encouraged adding that the county will invest in sports to bring unity in the society.

“This county is rich with a variety of talents. The other day we had a ‘pilot’. Today we have Friends School – Bukembe, Lugulu Girls and a brave cyclist, I will give him Ksh10,000 and a bike,” said Lusaka.
The two schools were each given Ksh. 20, 000 and promised more support of Ksh. 500,000 each as they head to the national level games that will be held in Kisumu from August 1.
The governor promised to attend the sports to give both teams morale to do even better especially Bukembe who have qualified to reach that level for the first time.
Bukembe hammered St. Anthony high school who were defending the title 2-1 in the finals played at Lodwar Mixed Primary School to win the Nzioa regionals.
The governor also gave Ksh. 5,000 to Mzee Jack Wanyama who allegedly fasted for a week to see Bukembe crowned soccer winners in the competition. Lusaka said that the county government had constructed a multi-million high altitude center in Mt Elgon for athletes.
“We are already doing this by constructing a multi-million high altitude training center for athletes in Mt Elgon,”said Lusaka.

Governor Lusaka urged the teams to maintain discipline so that they can be ranked the most disciplined team
“As you head to Kisumu, may you be ranked the most disciplined team. Win fairly,” said Lusaka.
Deputy Governor Hillary Chongwony said the county had invested heavily in sports in a move to foster unity.
The County government has kicked off soccer league in all the wards that will culminate to the formation of county teams (men and women) to be registered in football league to promote talent at the grass roots.
Moreover, the Lusaka regime has implemented a sports policy to ensure those on county teams get job opportunities in the county government.

Education CEC Beryl Mutekhele said Bukembe and Lugulu girls had gone into the books of history for producing the best in Bungoma.
“We are proud of Lugulu and Bukembe since Education is complete when we perform well in sports too,” she said.
On her part, Lugulu Girls Principal Margaret Mechumo said she was proud of her school adding that the institution had a long history of winning medals at the national level.
“We will be condemned if we do not bring the national trophy to Bungoma County. We will extend our hunger for this trophy to the East and Central Africa championships,” she said.
Mechumo said that Lugulu girls are seasoned volleyball champions who will not disappoint at the national championships and thanked the county govt for recognizing co-curricula activities in schools.
The principal hailed governor Lusaka’s’ efforts to promote sports in the county.
