Three dormitories at St. Francis Suwerwa secondary school in Cherangany constituency were gutted down after a fire whose cause has not been established erupted destroying properties of unknown value.
While confirming the incident, the school’s principal Charles Mwaria said the fire started at around 8.30 pm in the evening when all the students were in their respective classes having the evening preps and what caused the fire has not been established.

“Students and teachers rushed to the affected dormitories to try to salvage some properties but much was not salvaged as the fire had become excess.” said the principal
He said that the fire that destroyed three dormitories affected 200 students adding that the student lost their boxes, mattresses and other learning materials.
Mr. Mwaria has appealed for help from well wishers to chip in and contribute towards construction of other dormitories so that the affected students continue with their learning.
He however did not talk about the cost incurred as a result of the inferno as he was scheduled to attend the board’s meeting which was to come up with the exact figures of loss at a later stage.

Some of the parents who arrived at the school led by Nicodemus Milimo said that immediately they learnt about the incident, they rushed there to try help put out the fire by using water but they were overwhelmed by it.
Students led by Tom Juma narrated how they learnt of their dormetries being on fire when they were busy in their classroom studying during preps. They rushed at the scene to try put out the fire but the inferno’s intensity overwhelmed them.
Fifteen students sustained some mild injuries and were taken to the Cherengany sub county hospital for treatment and discharged.
The 200 affected students have been forced to use the school dining hall as their dormitory.
