The Member of County Assembly of Chepkumia ward in Emgwen Constiuency Hon Wilson Sang is the newly elected Deputy Speaker of the county Assembly of Nandi.
The seat of the deputy speaker was left vacant after the demise of the the previous deputy speaker Hon. Hesbon Metto of Lelmokwo/Ngechek ward.
In the elections conducted at the county assembly, Sang garnered a total of 36 votes against his opponents Thomas Maritim of Terik ward who had 5 votes and Josphat Tarbei of Kaboi/Kaptumo ward who got only 2 votes.
The election presided over by the speaker of the county assembly Hon Edwin Cheluget was conducted in a democratic way, given that it was free and fair to all.
A total of 43 votes were cast as other members were locked out of the elections for not keeping time.
Addressing the house after his victory, Sang applauded the members for giving him a chance to serve them as a deputy speaker saying that for the few remaining time he will work hand in hand with his members to take Nandi to new heights.
The newly elected deputy speaker was once a Chief Whip of the county assembly during the Pesa Mashinani referendum and was on the affirmative ‘YES’ side which subsequently led to him losing his position as the Chief Whip given that he went against URP party norms, according to the national office.
There were evident celebrations outside the Assembly from the public and relatives who were admittedly very impressed after the election and result.
On the other hand, the speaker of the county assembly Edwin Cheluget applauded the efforts of the house members for electing a capable deputy speaker, adding that they will both work in tandem to accomplish the three roles of the house that is oversight, legislation and leadership.
