The culture of Poor parenting has been said to be the root cause of the arson cases in schools that has been witnessed all over the country according to education stakeholders in Nandi.
In a meeting held at Kapsabet Boys High school that brought together Education stakeholders from across the entire county of Nandi including school principals and security team in abide to find the lasting solution of the unrest, every one who rose to give out a speech blamed poor parenting as the probable issues causing arson cases in schools.
They claimed that parents have no time with their children as many of them are busy with their work, chasing wealth thus children are left to grow up in their own way which in return most of them end up being indiscipline.
The stakeholders appealed to school principals to be sensitizing their parents on the aspect of parenting through Annual General Meetings (AGMs).
“It is high time to think outside the box and find out a lasting solutions to put into a halt this unrest in our schools.” They all chorused in unison.
Another aspect speculated to be the cause of fires in most of the schools are the strict rules advocated for by the Minister Of Education Dr Fred Matiangi to curb cheating in schools.
Way forward
The stakeholders agreed that schools should improve the communication systems and allow open forums for both students, teachers and the staff as away of solving out this problem.
Instill discipline within learning institutions and principals to have informers so as to get in touch with what is happening.
So far two schools in Nandi, Serem and Kilibwoni Boys High schools have been torched and millions of property destroyed.
The cause of the fires have not been yet established as investigations to ascertain the cause are continuing.
