Security agencies in Lugari Sub County are tracing owner of a private vehicle that was abandoned at Kipkaren trading centre on Thursday.
According curious residents who reported the incident at Lumakanda police station, the private van, Isuzu in make, was left at the scene by unknown persons at 5 am.
“When the vehicle stopped at about 5 am, two men alighted, locked its door and walked away,” said one of the witnesses on anonymous condition who added the vehicle, KBY 240X, was headed towards Webuye from Eldoret direction.
The locals, mostly traders, got concerned when the van’s driver failed to show up six hours later, “that is when we decided to report the matter to security officers at Lumakanda,” added our source.
Lugari Sub County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), Mr. Joseph Katsungu and Lumakanda Officer in Charge of Crime, Mrs. Esther Cheseret, led a team of security officers to the scene.
The officers managed to unlock the van’s doors and conducted preliminary investigations.
“It is still too early to make any statements about the abandonment incident,” Katsungu told West Media.
He, however, did not rule out the possibility of connecting the van with crime related activities.
“This is from the fact we are unable to detect any fingerprints both inside and outside of the vehicle,” disclosed the SCCIO who said the van might have either been stolen or used to commit crime before it was dumped at the scene.
“However, we are coordinating with our colleagues in Eldoret and other towns in order to unravel the whereabouts of the van,” added Katsungu.
The van was towed to Lumakanda police station.
The SCCIO lauded Kipkarren market residents for raising the concern and at the same time encouraged all members of the public to be watchful and raise the alarm on any incidents capable of posing security threats.
Nobody had claimed ownership of the vehicle by time of going to the press.
