Police officers in Likuyani Sub County are investigating the death of a man whose decomposing body was found inside a borehole belonging to a villager near Matunda trading centre.
According to area Officer Commanding Police Station (OCPD), Mr. Meshack Kiptum, the body of the man, estimated to be in early 40s, was noticed by a Mr. Makacha who is the owner of the borehole, which was still under construction on Monday morning.
“Makacha alleged that an odorous smell attracted him towards the yet to be completed private borehole and upon peeping inside he spotted the man’s body,” said Kiptum.

Makacha informed police officers who rushed and retrieved the body from the borehole.
Though the deceased’s exact names were yet to be established, police officers arrested a woman who locals claimed had been staying with him in a rented house at Matunda market.
“The woman is assisting security officers with investigations into the death incident in order to establish whether it was a case of suicide, murder or accident,” noted Kiptum.
The body might have been in the borehole for at least five days, according to the police boss.
Some of the locals who spoke to the media claimed the deceased was of Kikuyu origin.
The body was removed to Kitale Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
