A sixty seven year old woman was killed by an elephant in Poghoi village, Orwa Sub-location, Sigor Division in Central Pokot Sub-County on Thursday.
The woman was killed just 50 meters away from her house when she was coming from a ceremony at Seker Mixed Secondary School.
Residents, who are living in fear, complained that about four people have been killed by three rogue roaming elephants in the area in a span of two years.

Pokot Central Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Kithinji, confirmed the incident saying that the woman Chepokarial Kasukul Kapel, was crushed on Thursday evening at around 10.00 pm.
Speaking at the scene of the incident, area Member of County Assembly Mr. Thomas Ng’olesya, called on the Kenya Wildlife Service to contain the roaming animals.
“We want the Kenya Wildlife Service to take action and search for the rogue animals before residents get angry and start killing them,” he warned.
He complained that elephants roaming in the area have killed many people, animals and even destroyed crops in farms.
Ng’olesya called on the KWS to compensate families affected by the wild animals in the area.
“This problem is getting out of hand. The concerned party should take action because human life is precious,” he said.
He cited that it was getting difficult for children to go to school early mornings as they fear the elephants and mentioned the need to put up low cost boarding schools in the area urging the county and national government to distribute food to schools.

Husband to the deceased, Magal Kapel said that the incident had upset him given that the family mainly depended on his late wife.
“We have a daughter in form one and my wife was the one responsible for paying her school fees,” he said.
Up to Friday evening, the body of the woman was still at the scene as KWS officers went on hunting for the elephant that caused the mayhem.
