Eugene Wamalwa’s bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat got another boost as some leaders voiced their support for the Water Cabinet Secretary. While commemorating the late Michael Kijana Wamalwa’s 13th memorial, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria openly supported the notion he had before, concerning Eugene’s bid for the gubernatorial seat, “The team that we are confident will take charge of Nairobi is that of Eugene Wamalwa and Bishop Margaret Wanjiru,” he said.
Some weeks ago, leaders from Central Kenya openly supported Eugene’s stand, as the race for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat heats up. Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has yet to fully take her stand alongside Eugene, though she is confident a deal will be struck soon, “Let me consult my supporters just like Mr Wamalwa has consulted his supporters,” she said “All I know is that we will reach an agreement.” Wamalwa’s support seems to be increasing among Western region leaders, with Ababu Namwamba insisting that a Luhya who doesn’t support Wamalwa’s bid is an enemy of the community.
The memorial ceremony for the late vice president brought together leaders from all over Western region, led by Bungom,a governor Ken Lusaka, Moses Akaranga, and MPs including Dan Wafula and Ayub Savula. Eugene Wamalwa was keen to relate the legacy left by Kijana Wamalwa and the unity of Kenyans, highlighting the support he himself has got from fellow leaders, “What we are doing is a continuation of Kijana Wamalwa’s legacy, which was nationalistic,” he said, “He wanted us to be in government and to unite with other communities,” he said.
