Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has assured residents in Sirisia, Tongaren and Mt Elgon constituencies of acquiring land title deeds, after staying in their legally acquired land for a long time without the important document.
In an exclusive interview after attending a church mass at Musembe Catholic Church, Mbakalo ward in Tongaren Sub County, governor Lusaka said the exercise will kick off in Sirisia, Malakisi area, where 500 people will be given title deeds.
He said since independence in 1963, the people have been living in agony because they lacked the important document, adding that they couldn’t develop and had no access to loans from banks and other financial institutions.
“These people have always been referred to as squatters and have been taken advantage of, especially during the election period, through promises of helping them get the title deeds, an issue which we want to take care of once and for all,” he said
He further disclosed that in collaboration with the national government they will also be issuing 964 titles to Tongaren residents and also the president will be facilitating the giving out of titles in Mt Elgon Sub County in the Chepyuk settlement scheme. “We have been carrying out land clinics in the County to sensitize residents on their rights regarding land issues, that is expected to end by December 2017,” he said.
On the other hand, Lusaka assured residents that plans of rehabilitating the Misikhu-Naitiri-Brigadier road are underway, saying it was one of his promises after assuming office, that the road will be tarmacked to ease transportation.

He disclosed that the County government will be funding the construction of the road together with the national government saying a fifty-fifty percentage funding deal had been agreed saying the contractor will soon be on the site to start the work.
However, he called upon residents in Tongaren Sub County to support the County government in its quest to change the living standards of the residents saying for the past three years it has ensured the residents benefit from the programs laid down to support them.
