The chairman of ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative in Musikoma location Kanduyi constituency, in Bungoma County, has urged the county government to help them overcome the hardships they face while on duty. Speaking to West FM, Maurice Karani said the lack of financial support and protective gears like raincoats and gumboots, is giving them a hard time to when it comes to performing their duties in villages, he challenged the relevant authorities to intervene and support them.

“It has been hard for us to perform our duties effectively at grassroots level due to lack of equipment that will enable us to work efficiently,” said Karani. He said they should get financial support, given that it will come in handy for them, “Incentives motivate any person who is undertaking any duties, so I urge the Bungoma county government to support us,” noted Karani.

He also acknowledged the work of village elders, who are supporting them and their efforts of maintaining peace, and also tackling the menace of illicit brewers in their respective areas of jurisdiction. “Since the implementation of the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ initiative, we are able to monitor each and every person through the support from the village elders,” said Karani.

On the other hand, he thanked the Jubilee government for implementing the well-known initiative which has led to a reduction of crime rate at the grassroots level, ”This initiative has enabled us to deal with insecurity issues in our villages because we are able to get information faster and this is a recommendable move by the national government because the stability of national security starts from the grassroots level,” said Karani.

He urged the residents of Musikoma to work hand in hand according to the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ guidelines to ensure that security in the location is stabilized. “Our work cannot be effective without your support,” said Karani.
