Nandi County and Kericho County senators have called for Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario to step down over Kenya’s poor team preparations in Rio. Addressing mourners at Kobujoi in Aldai constituency, where they had attended the funeral, Nandi County Senator Stephen Sang and the senator for Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, have called for the immediate resignation of the Cabinet Secretary whom they said is sleeping on his job.
Their calls come after it emerged that morale at the Team Kenya camp in the ongoing Rio Olympics is low after weeks of confusion including chaotic travel arrangements, inadequate training kit, questionable allocation of slots in the Olympic Village and doping-related bribery allegations against one of the top officials.

The two senators claimed that the team’s mismanagement pertaining the Olympics this year has raised a lot of questions despite evident commitment and vigilance. “This is a scandal that the nation must address and must be investigated fully, and as a country, we should not give room to greedy individuals to tamper with our national pride,” they said.
They requested for an audit report to be conducted in order to know the officials who went to Rio as genuine coaches, who were legally meant to accompany team Kenya.
The senators accused Wario of sleeping on his job and that time has come for him to be shown the exit door and demanding that officials who have played a major role in the mismanagement of sporting funds and amenities to be brought to book.
