The cases of primary schools pupils being impregnated in Kenya increasingly becoming a concern, and raises questions about the future of girl child education in the country. It’s the wish of every parent to see the future of his or her child successful but unfortunately, they are faced with a situation where students or pupils are dropping out of schools because of early pregnancy cases.
A teacher in school plays a crucial role apart from instilling knowledge. They have to shape the morals of the students and pupils
The recent incidence, when a headteacher in Korisiondet primary school in Sirisia sub-county impregnated a pupil was shocking and one will wonder what motivated him to do such a dubious act which is against the teaching profession Ethics. It’s a clear indication that the image of the education sector is being distorted by few individuals who want to satisfy their lusts while ignoring the future of the pupils.
During our days, teachers were respected and they were a living example one could admire and follow. The relationship between the teacher and pupils/students was based on academic issues and nothing else .Teachers should a cooperate with parents to ensure that discipline is observed by students and pupils.
Modernization has transformed everything, and it’s not shocking to find a teacher having a sexual relationship with his or her pupil, and as a result, the discipline that is supposed to be upheld is being compromised. People who are known to practice this ill behavior are walking freely without being prosecuted.
Parents should have more time with their children and discuss issues affecting them, in their academic ventures and other vital things, rather than leaving the burden to teachers only who sometimes may become too attached and take advantage of them.
Guiding and counseling departments should freely engage with pupils and students as a result, they will able to identify easily what they are going through and keep them from sexual harassment. It is also high time for the government and education stakeholders to cooperate and save the future of girl child education.
