Nandi county Assembly has suspended the CEC for Health Hon. Matthew Rotich for a period of three months for his gross misconduct of failing to honor the orders of the house. The members of the house, chaired by the speaker of the County Assembly Edwin Cheluget, unanimously agreed to give him a suspension for a period of three months for turning a deaf ear to the Committee on Implementation which he was required to appear before.
According to the speaker, the Minister was invited to meet an implementation committee but he didn’t turn up despite the fact that all other CEC’s of various ministries attended without failure. A hurdle Committee is to be formed to come up with the right disciplinary action against him.
The minister was supposed to appear before the Committee to give a report of the health department as a whole including the state of drugs, health welfare, and the ministry budget.
Member of county assembly of Tindiret Kipkurui Chepkwony in an interview with the press at the county assembly building confirmed that there was a recommendation adopted by the house members to suspend the officer due to the said reasons but issues that were raised in the report were not really sufficient to see him suspended.
He said that he is worried for the people of Tinderet, citing they may be targeted wrongly adding that people will fight to ensure the CEC is given a fair hearing. He called upon the public to be cautious concerning what happens in county assemblies.
