The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has deployed 100 police officers to safely restore order and sanity on the roads after rising cases of accidents. This comes after the Lang’ata road accident in Nairobi that lead to the death of four passengers and widespread outcry from Nairobi residents. They are also meant to ensure drivers comply with the safety measures put in place.
NTSA Director General Mr. Francis Meja assured that the deployment of the 100 officers will help to attain the level of sanity they want, and will minimize the number of accidents caused by recklessness and carelessness. He said that drivers who will fail to meet the required standards will face the penalties, including having their driving licenses revoked. The Director General also made it clear that the officers will not entertain the corrupt practices that have been evident on Kenyan roads recently.
He assured the public of their commitment as an organization to reduce road accidents. He warned that as the Christmas season draws closer, people should be more careful to curb the number of road accidents. He further assured that the NTSA will work with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development to help address the ailing issues in the road sector.
