A suspected robber was lynched by an angry mob at Kapsabet town after a failed attempt to rob an M-Pesa shop with his colleagues. Police arrived on the scene to rescue him, but it wasn’t to be as he was pronounced dead moments after arriving at Kapsabet Referral Hospital.
The other two suspected robbers, a lady and a man who managed to escape narrowly, are still at large but the police have launched investigations to bring them to book.
The three culprits were in a private vehicle and headed straight to the M-Pesa point. The M-Pesa operator quickly realized that the people were not genuine customers, though, and raised an alarm without hesitation. The OCPD Nandi central Joakim Mecha who addressed the angry mob urged them not to take the law into their own hands but instead let justice run its course. He said killing the suspect will prevent evident thus is good to take the suspect to the police to be investigated.
He said killing the suspected robber will tamper with vital evidence, citing that it’s better when the suspect is taken in for questioning and further investigation.
